Babysitting

The kid I’m babysitting tonight is 8 and has severe ADHD. His mom is a single mom who is in school trying to earn her degree. The reason I’m babysitting him tonight is because she’s volunteering at the women’s shelter. This whole scenario warms my heart for multiple reasons. #1: the kid has severe ADHD and reminds me of myself when I was his age. The things he says and does either makes me laugh or makes me think of myself. #2: His mom is the absolute sweetest person I’ve ever met and is just trying to be the best role model for her son. The way she cares about him and everything makes me so happy. She wrote me 2 pages of directions for him in case he acted up or something. I crumpled them up right in front of her and said “I have ADHD. I know how he’s gonna act. He’s gonna be great and have no issues.” She didn’t even say anything. She just gave me a hug and said “Thank you.” Camden, her son, isn’t even behaving badly or anything. He told me 4 times I was most beautiful person I’ve ever seen. He also wanted to me to “eat some of these wonderful green grapes with him because they are so good, he can’t keep them to himself.” This kid is absolutely amazing.

That was so all over the place but I was just so happy, I had to blog about it.
