Playing mom

This weekend I had to play the role of mom for my 3 cousins. My uncle (their dad) is in Iowa hunting with my dad, my grandpa, and my other uncle. My aunt (their mom) had a bunch of things to do this weekend so I told her to have a kid free weekend and that I’ll take care of the kids. They got dropped off Saturday morning and will be with me until dinner time tonight. Yesterday we didn’t do much. Just hung around my house and I painted one of my cousins (Nora) nails. Today though is a different story. We woke up at 7am because we have church at 9am. I got them dressed, fed them breakfast (of course all 3 don’t want the same thing so I made waffles, pancakes, and cereal), brushed teeth, and off to church we went. Church was fine because I put the younger two (Will and Nora) in the nursery so they could play and so I could have a break. The oldest (Evan whose 8) stayed in church with me. After church is when it all went downhill. I had to leave church with Evan because he had an 11:45am hockey game (I’m sitting at the game blogging) but the younger 2 didn’t want to come. So I had Connor (my brother) take the younger two home because my mom had to stay for the second church service. They went home and as I’m driving, I get a call from Connor. “Uhh Claire. Nora and Will are hungry. What should I make them?” Are you kidding me. You’re 16 years old taking care of a 6 and 3 year old. They can tell you what they want and they aren’t picky so make them whatever! I can’t believe he called me. I finally get Evan to the ice rink and he asks me to go into the locker room with him to help him get dressed. Okay sure. Well I walk in there and there’s about 10 8 year olds all running around and screaming and whatnot. Fantastic. I get Evan’s skates tied and his jersey and everything else on and he goes out to the ice. Not 6 minutes into the game, Connor calls me again asking how to make mac n cheese. Dude. It’s on the side of the box. All you have to do is freakin READ! The game is almost over (3:21 remaining) and then I’ll have to go undress and de-skate Evan. He’s gonna stink. Wish me luck as I go home and then get all 3 once again!
